La Hong
La Hong Nhut (born December 12, 1967 in Sài Gòn , South Vietnam ) is an Austrian fashion designer . He runs the “La Hong Nhut” label for women’s haute couture in Vienna, and from autumn 2012 he will be selling a prêt-à-porter line.
Life
He was born the fifth of eight children. His first name Nhut means "Pink Sunday" in Vietnamese . His father was a dentist and his mother a seamstress. At the age of 14 he emigrated to Austria with his family in 1981. The family settled in Vorarlberg . In Bregenz , despite his age, he was enrolled in fourth grade elementary school due to a lack of knowledge of German . After completing secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman. But even then he was more interested in textile design and so, on the advice of his friends and without the knowledge of his family, he moved to Vienna and attended the HTBLVA Spengergasse specializing in fashion and pattern drawing.
In addition to his training, he worked as an assistant in a boutique in downtown Vienna . After completing his community service at the Lainz Hospital , La Hong began working as an independent tailor for various Viennese boutiques. In addition, he designed theatrical costumes for the Klagenfurt summer stage several times, attended evening school and finally completed the master's examination as a ladies' dress maker. In 2003 he opened his own shop. As a result, he began to sell his own creations, for which he soon won a number of awards: 2003 the “Coral Fashion Award 2003” and the “Pierre Lang Fashion Award 2003”, 2004 and 2005 the “Renault Haute Couture Audience Award” and 2005 the “Vienna Couture Prize” and the RESL Award 2012 in 2012. In 2006, La Hong moved his studio to Vienna's posh Kärntner Strasse . He also attracted media attention with the opera ball gowns he created for Christina Lugner and Carmen Electra . The following year he himself came to the Opera Ball as a guest and caused a sensation with his appearance with an Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe double .
From November 2007 to June 2009, La Hong, together with Erika Rumpold, advertising agency owner and wife of the FPÖ politician Gernot Rumpold , was a partner in La Hong GmbH - in 2009 the company separated from the GmbH, and La Hong subsequently acted as a sole proprietor. In 2011 Nhut La Hong Design GmbH was founded. The aim of the new “La Hong Nhut” brand is to increase awareness and increase the sales area. This is to be achieved through innovative Pret-a-Porter collections. In autumn 2012 Nhut La Hong Design GmbH opens its flagship store with an attached studio, tailoring and office space in the Stilwerk in Vienna. The future Pret-a-Porter line is to be sold in the flagship store. A franchise system is also planned. In other words, Nhut La Hong Design GmbH makes its shop concept available to franchisees and thus increases the brand's awareness worldwide. La Hong is represented at numerous society events and has become a member of the Austrian Seitenblickegesellschaft .
In 2008 he designed the equipment for the Austrian sports team for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing (2008). In 2009 he created his first prêt-à-porter collection for the Austrian discounter Hofer under the “lineight” brand , just as the internationally renowned fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld had previously done for Hennes & Mauritz . The spring collection at Hofer was followed by a second summer collection, but then the collaboration was discontinued in the wake of the financial crisis. However, the success of La Hong's first two fashion collections was excellent.
At the beginning of January 2011 he showed his fashion in his old homeland Vietnam for the first time at a charity gala in Hanoi . Five former Miss Austria presented their creations.
