The Lackporlinge ( Ganoderma ) are a genus of fungus from the family Lackporlingsverwandten (Ganodermataceae). They are wood-dwelling and wood-decomposing pore fungi that live as saprobionts or parasites in and on the root and trunk foot area of coniferous and deciduous trees and produce white rot in the affected wood .
features
The Lackporlinge are characterized by relatively large, flat, laterally stalked or sessile, tough fruiting bodies that can be annual or perennial. They can be distinguished from other Polyporales by their double-walled basidiospores , the spore powder is light brown. The genus is divided into two sections:
- Section Ganoderma, has a shiny top, like Ganoderma lucidum , and
- Section Elfvingia, has a matt hat surface, like Ganoderma applanatum .

The genus comprises around 50 species worldwide, mainly found in the tropics .
The separation of the species from one another is still unclear; in Europe there are seven clans and in Germany there are six species whose species rank is unclear.

Krieglsteiner assigns these species to three groups:
- Ganoderma applanatum and Ganoderma australe
- Ganoderma pfeifferi
- Ganoderma lucidium with Ganoderma resinaceum , Ganoderma carnosum and Ganoderma valesiacum

Some types of the genus are used in traditional Chinese medicine .
Names
The scientific name of the genus is derived from the Greek terms ganos - shiny and derma - skin and, like the German name, refers to the glossy, lacquer-like surface of some species.
