Lake City is a small town that is mostly in Wabasha County and a smaller part in Goodhue County . Both counties are in the Southeast US -amerikanischen state of Minnesota on the Mississippi River . In 2010 Lake City had 5063 residents.

The French missionary Louis Hennepin , who came from Belgium , traveled to the area around Lake Pepin in 1680.

The first known white settler was Jacob Boody in 1853 . A settlement was established in 1855. The officials of the place were authorized by the state government of Minnesota in 1864 to create a harbor and a center for the grain trade, since the Lake Pepin before Lake City was deep enough for it. The volume of trade grew rapidly in the following period, reaching $ 1.5 million in 1866.

In 1872 the settlement was officially declared a city. Today, Lake City is primarily a center for tourism and water sports. Lake City is considered the origin of water skiing .
