The State Office for Immigration Berlin is the immigration office in the capital. With around 540 employees and 400,000 customers speaking annually, it is the largest immigration authority in Germany. The authority is subordinate to the Senate Department for Home Affairs and Sport .

founding

The Berlin State Office for Immigration emerged from the State Office for Citizens and Regulatory Affairs. Before that, the now independent state office was only a department in the state office for civil and regulatory affairs. The opening took place on January 15, 2020.

According to the Senate Department for Interior and Sport, the reasons for the establishment of the state office are demographic change and the resulting shortage of skilled workers . In addition, the state office is supposed to be a reaction to the Skilled Workers Immigration Act of August 15, 2019. The law enacted by the federal government came into force on March 1, 2020. So that skilled workers can be placed more quickly, u. a. Bureaucratic obstacles are removed, a complaint management system introduced and an interpreting service set up.
