The Landestheater Oberpfalz (LTO) is a non-profit GmbH based in Leuchtenberg and is considered to be “Germany's youngest state theater”. The sponsoring association and sole shareholder is the Stadtbühne Vohenstrauß , from which the State Theater emerged as a professional spin-off on January 1, 2010. Various venues in the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Palatinate are played all year round , and the Leuchtenberg Castle Festival is traditionally held in summer .

history

The Landestheater Oberpfalz was founded in 2010 as a GmbH, the first director was Matthias Winter. Since it was founded, the LTO has been staging the Leuchtenberg Castle Festival, which was previously organized by the Vohenstrauß Stadtbühne , with the still existing amateur ensemble, and after the "Small Stage" was closed in the city of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate, it also planned the event in the Weidener Max until the 2011/12 season -Reger-Halle taken over. Since 2014, production activities have been expanded to include year-round operations with a focus on professional acting. The LTO youth theater festival in Weiden and the Junge Ensemble, a youth club for 13-18 year olds, have existed since 2015.

In 2016 the Landestheater Oberpfalz was the first winner of the Oberpfälzer Heimatpreis, awarded by Minister of State Markus Söder , who was the patron of the Burgfestspiele in 2017. Also in 2016, the award-winning author Bernhard Setzwein from Upper Palatinate wrote the play Late Visiting - Dietrich Bonhoeffer Redivivus for the LTO in cooperation with the Flossenbürg Memorial, which premiered at the memorial under the direction of Till Rickelt.

Program and direction

In addition to the amateur ensemble, which is organized in the Stadtbühne Vohenstrauss association and which provides the actors for the Leuchtenberg Castle Festival , the LTO includes a core of five permanent professional actors. The Landestheater currently has 26 full-time and part-time employees, including two theater educators; it cooperates with the state-recognized drama school Academy for Performing Arts Bavaria . The program ranges from ambitious entertainment in High German and Upper Palatinate dialect to socio-political plays, musicals and project developments by the Junge Ensemble. As part of the promotion of young talent, the LTO regularly offers courses for children and acting workshops in the Upper Palatinate, is active in theater education in schools and cooperates artistically with other institutions.

In order to live up to its self-image as a state theater, the LTO also carries out side trips and guest performances at various locations in the Upper Palatinate, including the Tirschenreuth Museum Quarter , the Schönbergbühne Grafenwöhr , the Upper Palatinate Open Air Museum Neusath-Perschen , the Speinshart Monastery , Burgtreswitz , and the theater on the Schloßberg in Waldeck.
