Reichsgau Danzig-West Prussia

The district of Rippin (Western Pr.) Existed between 1939 and 1945 in occupied Poland . On January 1, 1945, it comprised two cities and 199 other municipalities.

Administrative history

On October 26, 1939, the Polish district of Rypin became part of the newly formed Reichsgau West Prussia - later Danzig-West Prussia - in the Marienwerder district . A good two months later, the district was given the Germanized name Rippin by an unpublished decree of December 29, 1939.

On April 1, 1942, the district of Dobrzyn [= town of Dobrzyn] was placed under the municipal supervision of the neighboring district of Briesen and the administration of the mayor in the town of Gollub.

Since June 25, 1942, the district was called Rippin (West Pr.) .

In the spring of 1945, the district was occupied by the Red Army and then became part of Poland again.

Local constitution

In the district Rippin (Westpr.) Of the city was Rippin (Westpr.) Valid in the Reich German Municipal Code awarded by 30 January 1935. The town of Dobrin on the Vistula was co-administered by the mayor of the neighboring town of Gollub in the district of Briesen (Westpr,). The other municipalities were grouped together in administrative districts .

Place names

Due to an unpublished decree of December 29, 1939, the previous Polish place names continued to apply.

The "Order regarding the change of place names" of the Reich Governor in Danzig-West Prussia of June 25, 1942, with the consent of the Reich Minister of the Interior, finally determined all place names in a German form. These were all new Germanized terms, phonetic alignment or translation, for example:

  • Chrostkowo: Horstfeld,
  • Czermin: Schermingen,
  • Okalewo: Hegen,
  • Osiek: Lindenschanz,
  • Radziki Duze: Ratsfelde,
  • Radomin: Reddemin,
  • Rypin: Rippin (Western Pr.),
  • Skrwilno: Reselerwalde,
  • Swiedziebnia: Schwetheim,
  • Szczutowo: Schüttau,
  • Zale: Shell Lake,
  • Zbojno: Raudorf, district of Rippin.
