Larry Gordon (born April 18, 1987 in West Covina , California ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his hometown of Pomona , Gordon turned pro in Europe.

Career

Gordon began his studies in Pomona in 2005, where he also graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona . There he played for the university team Broncos in the NCAA Division II. After the championship in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in 2005, which the Broncos had won with Jeff Bonds , who was later also active as a professional in Germany and Austria, Gordon could also win a conference championship with the Broncos in 2009. Then he even reached the final game with the Broncos in the nationwide finals of the second division, which was lost after extra time against the Oilers of the University of Findlay, who were undefeated this season . Like Bonds four years earlier, he was also voted one of the best players in the country as an " All-American " Division II in his final college season after the championship title . Along with Bonds, Gordon led most of the in-team categories in Broncos career bests at the time of his graduation.

After Gordon had only been active in the second division of the NCAA, in which the vast majority of athletes do not aspire to a career as a professional athlete, it was enough, although he was one of the best players there, only to one contract in the international at the beginning of his professional career less important professional league in the Netherlands. In the Eredivisie he played for Landstede from Zwolle from the 2009/10 season . However, the team played a disappointing season and achieved only five wins in 36 games as the table penultimate. For the 2010/11 season , Gordon moved to the Austrian Basketball Bundesliga (ÖBL) to the Bulls from Kapfenberg . In the slam dunk competition as part of the All-Star Game 2011 of the ÖBL, Gordon won the competition. For the Bulls it was again only sixth place at the end of the season and they couldn't improve in the play-offs, so they were eliminated in the first round. One season later, however, they took third place. In the play-off semifinal series, there was a duel with the Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg , but they got the upper hand and later won the championship in 2012.

For the basketball Bundesliga 2012/13 Gordon received a contract with the German first division club Phoenix from Hagen . As in Austria, Gordon was allowed to take part in the slam dunk competition on All-Star-Day in his first season in the German league, and because of his accuracy from a distance, he was also nominated for the "three-way competition" at the same time . At the end of the season, the Hagen team was surprisingly able to qualify for the play-off finals for the German championship for the first time since promotion in 2009. There they were eliminated in four games in the first round against defending champion Brose Baskets . In the following 2013/14 season , Gordon was then directly nominated for the international selection at the BBL All-Star Game 2014.

In 2015, Gordon left Hagen after three years. In terms of his statistical values, the 2013/14 season was the most successful game year of his time in Hagen, as he was on the field in 34 missions on average 33:24 minutes and averages of 15.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.7 Basket templates posted. For the 2015/16 season he was signed by Hagens Bundesliga competitor Eisbären Bremerhaven . He stayed with the Eisbären for a year and then left the Bundesliga to join the South Korean club Sonic Boom. Gordon played 19 games for the team from Busan , but went back to Germany at the end of 2016 and accepted a contract offer from Bundesliga club SC Rasta Vechta . With the Lower Saxony he was relegated from the Bundesliga, in August 2017 he was signed by the Kazakh club BK Astana .

At the end of June 2018 he was signed by Bundesliga club Gießen 46ers and played there under coach Ingo Freyer, as in Hagen . He made 34 appearances for Mittelhessen in the 2018/19 Bundesliga season and scored an average of 11.0 points per encounter. During the 2019 summer break, he moved to Hapoel Eilat in Israel .
