Lars-Göran Ulander

Lars-Göran Ulander (born June 8, 1943 in Sundsvall ) is a Swedish free jazz musician ( alto saxophone , soprano saxophone , flute ), radio journalist and music producer .

Live and act

Ulander, who was originally influenced by Art Pepper , began his musical career in 1963 in Umeå with Lars Lystedt , with whose sextet / quintet the first recordings were made in Stockholm. In the 1960s he also played in the Berndt Egerbladh Quartet and appeared on Swedish television in 1969 with trumpeter Phil Minton . In 1970 he was invited to the NDR jazz workshop in Hamburg with Terje Rypdal , Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , Sten Öberg and Karin Krog . In the 1970s and 80s he played a. a. with Björn Alke , Sten Öberg, Per Henrik Wallin and Urban Hansson . In 2005 Ulander's first album was released under his own name, Live at Glenn Miller Cafe , which was created in a trio with Palle Danielsson and Paal Nilssen-Love . In the field of jazz he was involved in 20 recording sessions between 1963 and 2007. In 1990 he became head of the jazz department at Swedish radio . He worked there not only as a music critic and reporter, but also as a producer for the Svenska radio jazz groups, and from the middle of the decade coordinated the cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). After his retirement he founded a quartet with Kresten Osgood , Magnus Broo and the singer Gerd Ulander . In 2013 he performed with the Svenska radio jazz groups .
