Lars Castellucci (born February 24, 1974 in Heidelberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and university professor and has been a member of the German Bundestag for the Rhine-Neckar constituency since 2013 .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Walldorf in 1993 , Castellucci completed his community service in the North Baden Psychiatric Center .

From 1995 to 2000, Castellucci studied politics , modern history and public law in Heidelberg, Mannheim and San Francisco . As a part-time job, Castellucci wrote his dissertation on the subject of social exclusion in Germany and new opportunities for action in labor market policy , with which he received his doctorate in 2008 at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

From 2000 to January 2013 he worked for the Hessian communications and strategy consultancy IFOK in the municipal business area. In the 2013 summer semester, Lars Castellucci was appointed to the professorship for Sustainable Management, in particular Integration and Diversity Management at the University of Economics for Management (HdWM) in Mannheim.

Castellucci lives openly homosexually in a relationship with his partner.

Lars Castellucci has been a member of the SPD since 1991. From 1995 to 2001 he was the local association chairman of the SPD Wiesloch . With the assumption of office he initiated a round table for work, from which 1997 the employment initiative Wiesloch und Umgebung BIWU e. V. emerged. During his tenure, Castellucci was able to increase the number of members in the local club by almost 40 percent. From December 1999 to October 2013 he was a member of the Wiesloch council, from 2001 to 2013 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. During this time he initiated, among other things, the Wiesloch Community Foundation and the Wiesloch Christmas wish campaign. From 2001 to 2009, Lars Castellucci was district chairman of the SPD Rhein-Neckar, the district association with the largest number of members in Baden-Württemberg. From 2005 to 2018, Lars Castellucci was Deputy Chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg .

In 2009 he ran for the first time as a Bundestag candidate of the SPD in the constituency of Rhein-Neckar, but missed the entry into the Bundestag. In December 2012, he was re-elected by the SPD Rhein-Neckar as a candidate for the SPD's Bundestag in constituency 277 Rhein-Neckar, and in the 2013 Bundestag election he entered the German Bundestag via the Baden-Württemberg state list . In his first term of office he was a member of the Interior and European Committees. He was also deputy chairman of the parliamentary advisory council for sustainable development and spokesman for the democracy working group of the SPD parliamentary group. Castellucci was also chairman of the German-Italian parliamentary group.

In autumn 2016 he was re-elected as an SPD candidate in the Rhein-Neckar electoral district with just under 96% and in March 2017 he was elected 12th on the Baden-Württemberg SPD state list for the 2017 federal election. On September 24, 2017, Castellucci was re-elected to the Bundestag via the state list. He is currently a member of the Interior Committee as well as deputy spokesman for internal affairs, commissioner for churches and religious communities and spokesman for migration and integration of the SPD parliamentary group. Castellucci is a deputy member of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid Committee and the Labor and Social Committee .

In October 2018, Castellucci announced that he would run against incumbent Leni Breymaier for the party chairmanship of the SPD Baden-Württemberg at the state party conference in November . In a member survey, he was defeated by Breymaier with only 39 votes and, in contrast to her, held on to his candidacy. At the party congress in Sindelfingen , the parliamentary group chairman Andreas Stoch stood up against him and prevailed with a lead of eight votes.

In addition to politics, Lars Castellucci is involved in the Protestant Church, in Mehr Demokratie and in Alumni e. V. of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . He is a founding member of Wieslocher Tafel e. V.

Lars Castellucci is a member of the Europa-Union Deutschland , the Gesellschaft Freunde der Universität Heidelberg , the Sozialdemokratischen Gemeinschaft für Kommunalpolitik e. V., the Arbeiterwohlfahrt , the GEW , the Naturfreunde , Ökostadt Rhein-Neckar e. V., in the German Alpine Association , in the Altwiesloch district association and in the Wiesloch-Walldorf animal welfare association.

Castellucci has been a member of the Chamber for Migration and Integration of the Evangelical Church in Germany since 2016 .
