history

The historian Wolf-Armin von Reitzenstein dates the first mention of "Lutirbrunnon" to the year 1143. Other sources assume that the place was first mentioned in a document in 1285 in a deed of donation from a Herr von Bocksberg to the Kaisheim monastery . The first syllable of the place name goes back to the Middle High German word "lûter" (pure or clear). The second syllable comes from the Middle High German "brunne" (source or fountain). What is meant is a spring or well where clean, clear water flows.

In 1335 the monastery gave the place to the marshals of Pappenheim. At that time there were only a few houses in Lauterbrunn. In 1492 there were only 15 fireplaces.

Records from 1565 indicate that 10 Sölden were inhabited by Jews. There was also a Jewish school in town.

In 1573 the marshals von Pappenheim sold the village to the Fuggers . The population of Lauterbrunn grew rapidly in the years that followed. By 1610, the number of fireplaces rose to 41. At the time of the Thirty Years' War , however, the number of inhabitants fell again, as a third of the inhabitants fled from the Swedes to Austria.

Population development in Lauterbrunn

At the beginning of the 18th century the population had recovered and in 1721 there were 46 fireplaces in the village. Joseph Rager was appointed the first mayor of Lauterbrunn in 1767.

As part of the district reform, Lauterbrunn came on July 1, 1972 from the former Wertingen district to the new Augsburg-West district (since May 1, 1973 Augsburg district). On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community was finally incorporated into the neighboring community of Heretsried.

Culture and sights

In the center of the village is the Catholic parish church of St. Vitus (house number 13). It was built around the year 1285 and is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments. The Lauterbrunn cemetery extends right next to the church. A little further away from the town center there is also a small Marienkapelle on the northeast edge of the town.

Opposite the parish church was the old rectory (house number 14). The gable roof construction originated in the first half of the 18th century and was abandoned in the past.

Economy and Infrastructure

State road 2036 runs through Lauterbrunn in a north-south direction. It represents the town's main road and connects Lauterbrunn with the neighboring towns of Heretsried and Emersacker. Furthermore, in the north of Affaltern, the district road A 12 joins the state road 2036.

At the same time, Lauterbrunn is also connected to the regional network of hiking and cycling trails in the nature park and integrated into the AVV network (lines 403 and 502).

The economic structure in Lauterbrunn is predominantly agricultural and forestry. There are also some small businesses. Larger commercial or industrial companies are not located.

Lauterbrunn has a kindergarten with a crèche. School facilities, however, are not available. The primary school assigned according to the compulsory district is located in Emersacker and the assigned middle school in Welden.
