Cork Hibernians won the championship for the first time. The decision for the title was made in a playoff against the tied team of Shamrock Rovers .

The fourteen teams, which also competed in the preseason, played against each other twice on 26 match days, divided into a first and a second round. If there was a tie at the top of the table, a playoff for the championship was planned.
