Ledebouria is a plant kind from the family of asparagus plants (Asparagaceae). The botanical name of the genus honors the German botanist Carl Friedrich von Ledebour .

description

The species of the genus Ledebouria are single or sprouting and then group-forming persistent geophytes whose bulbs have somewhat fleshy onion scales. The variable leaves that are present at the time of flowering are spread out and usually speckled.

On the paniculate, ascending inflorescence there are small, thread-like, flower-bearing bracts. The six expanded to recurved, papillate tepals are fused together at their base. The six stamens are free, their stamens stalk around and moving dust bag introrse. The stalked, cone-shaped ovary is notched at its base. The stylus is round, the stigma head -shaped .

The fruits are triangular, obovate loculicidal capsules . They contain obovate, black seeds .

Systematics and distribution

The genus Ledebouria is common in tropical and southern Africa as well as in India .

The first description by Albrecht Wilhelm Roth was published in 1821. Synonyms are Eratobotry's Fenzl ex Endl. (1842) and Xeodolon Salisb. (1866).
