Lee Montague
Lee Montague (born October 16, 1927 in London ) is a British actor .
Life
Montague made his stage actor debut at the Old Vic Theater in London in 1950 in William Shakespeare's later comedy What You Want . In the 1951/52 season he appeared there as Usumcasane in Tamburlaine the Great by Christopher Marlowe , as the villain Edmund in King Lear and as Flaminius in Timon of Athens . In 1952 he made his Broadway debut at the Martin Beck Theater in New York City in the play The Climate of Eden by Moss Hart . In 1953 he played the Ben in Love for Love by William Congreve and the Dauphin in the historical drama Henry V by William Shakespeare at the Bristol Old Vic Theater . In 1953 he undertook with Henry V. , a tour through Switzerland . In 1957 he played Demetrius in Titus Andronicus at the Stoll Theater in London .
In the 1960s he had theater engagements again at the Old Vic Theater: in 1962 as Shylock in Shakespeare's tragicomedy The Merchant of Venice and in 1963 as Angelo in Maß für Maß . In October 1965 Montague starred again on Broadway in the play Entertaining Mr. Sloane by Joe Orton . In the early 1970s, theater engagements at the Oxford Playhouse followed: as Iago in Shakespeare's tragedy Othello and as the businessman Lopachin in Anton Chekhov's comedy The Cherry Orchard . Montague also went on a tour of Great Britain with both pieces . In 1972 he took over at the Bristol Old Vic Theater in the title role in Volpone by Ben Jonson . At the Stratford East Theater in London he played in August Strindberg's play The Father in 1976 . Montague completed other theater engagements until the end of the 1970s.
From the 1950s, Montague also worked as an actor for film and television . He played in films of various genres, where he was often used in the role of the "tough guy" or the "tough guy".
