Leibl Rosenberg (born January 27, 1948 in the DP camp Lagerlechfeld near Landsberg am Lech ) is a German publicist and Nazi looted property researcher.

Life

Leibl Rosenberg grew up as a child of Polish Jews and Holocaust survivors in the DP camp Föhrenwald (today: Waldram) near Wolfratshausen in Upper Bavaria with the native language Yiddish . After the camp was closed, his family moved to Munich in 1956 ; since 1988 he has lived and worked in Nuremberg .

Rosenberg attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich to study Jewish Studies , Biblical Studies , Linguistics , German and American Studies .

He was the editor of the “Neue Jüdische Nachrichten des Landesverband der Israelitische Kultusgemeinden” (1982–1984), editor of the “ Nürnberger Nachrichten ” (1990–1993) and from 1979 worked for several television stations, including as a copywriter for comedy television series like sketchup and things there .

Rosenberg held several honorary posts in organizations such as the Israelitische Kultusgemeinden Munich and Upper Bavaria and Nuremberg (1972–1982); He was also the founder and chairman of the “Forum for Jewish History and Culture” in Nuremberg (1999–2006).

He was co-managing director of the regional association of Israelite cultural communities in Bavaria (1982–1984) and managing director of the Central Council of Jews in Germany (1995).

Since 1997 he has been entrusted with the research and restitution of book collections from Nazi looted property at the Nuremberg City Library , which come from a Nazi library set up by Julius Streicher . As editor of the anti-Semitic weekly newspaper Der Stürmer, Streicher had compiled countless volumes that had been stolen from Jewish communities and private individuals. Today these holdings are part of the "Collection of the Israelite Religious Community" in the Nuremberg City Library.
