Leichenwetter is a music group from Iserlohn , founded in 1996 , that sets poems by deceased German poets to music in the style of New German Hardship and Gothic Metal .

history

Leichenwetter was founded in 1996 by the two musicians Dawe and Numen, who wanted to set texts by deceased German poets to music in an unconventional way and thus bring them back to life.

Under pseudonyms like “Dawe” ( electric guitar ) or “Numen” ( vocals ) they released the CD Nachtwerke in 1998 and were featured on several samplers in the following years .

In March 1999, other musicians completed their work under their artist names "Rudiator" ( keyboard until 2008), "Al-Yo-Shér" ( guitar until 2003), "Sir Pent" ( electric bass until 2000) and "Wahnfried" ( drums until 2000 ) the cast of the group, in order to enable Leichenwetter stage performances beyond studio recordings.

An EP with the title Beauty is rough followed in 2001 , the percussion parts of which had already been recorded with the new drummer “RaweN”. In the same year the album Urworte was released and the guitarist "Al-Yo-Shér" also left the band during the release process. Leichenwetter performed in a line-up without a second guitar at subsequent concerts .

The official discography began in 2005 with the record deal when they released Last Words on Metal Ax Records (distributor: Point Music), on which the tradition of setting poems to music is continued and older song material is partially reissued.

In January 2007, Metal Ax Records released the follow-up album Klage with new poetry settings by deceased German-speaking poets. In October 2008 the former Phantoms of Future keyboarder “der Voigt” joined the group after keyboarder “Rudiator” left the band for personal reasons after nine years. “Der Voigt” can not be seen on stage at Leichenwetter concerts because he doesn't like to be in the spotlight.

In May 2009, Cpt. Loft (until then bassist of the band) left the group because he was unable to join the band due to a change in his career. From July 2009 Doc Bawin was on bass. The band split in August 2010 due to internal differences from Doc Bawin. Since the beginning of October 2010 the bass has been operated by Lord Hur. In addition to "Leichenwetter", Lord Hur is also active in the band "Acrid Tones".

On October 15, 2010, the new album Legende was released on the Echozone label . In the course of the publication of Legende , Leichenwetter finally took off their masks, which had been an integral part of their concept for over ten years.

In May 2011 the CD Zeitmaschine and the DVD Zeitreise were released for the band's 15th anniversary. Zeitreise contains new recordings of selected older songs by the band. The DVD contains a live concert.

style

music

A striking feature of Leichenwetter is the strong, melodic singing of the musical experienced singer Numen , which stands out next to the otherwise very dark and powerful tones. The music is based on a combination of heavy metal guitar figures typical of the genre and electro - heavy synthesizer sequences. Since the end of 2008, Leichenwetter have also increasingly used orchestral sounds. According to their own statements, Leichenwetter do not necessarily see themselves as representatives of the new German hardship.
