Leitwind is a brand of the globally active company Leitner AG . Wind turbines in the megawatt class are developed, produced and operated under the brand . Leitner AG, headquartered in Sterzing , South Tyrol, belongs to the HTI (High Technology Innovation) group.
The enterprise
The Leitwind story began with the technology of the cable cars from Leitner ropeways , the core competence of the parent company HTI. An important detail of the cable cars is the electrical direct drive . Its construction has proven to be reliable even under severe environmental conditions. With the transfer of this cable car technology to the technology for wind turbines , the first Leitwind wind turbines were built.
Leitwind combined the direct drive with a synchronous generator . The prototype of the first Leitwind system was installed in Mals , South Tyrol, in 2003 .
In 2007 Leitwind started the series production of onshore wind turbines . There are now wind turbines on three continents. Based on the group's internal synergies , in addition to wind power plants, the company also offers complete wind power projects and package solutions for operation, maintenance and service. With production facilities in Italy , Austria and India , the company has now built almost 350 plants.

- 2013: Installation of the LTW101 3.0 MW prototype in Lelystad , the Netherlands
- 2015: 320 installed systems with a nominal output of 439.20 megawatts
