Leonhard Hell

Leonhard Hell (born July 17, 1958 in Hilpoltstein ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian . He is Professor of Dogmatics and Ecumenical Theology in Mainz .

Life

From 1964 to 1977 he attended elementary school and high school in his hometown. From 1977 to 1983 he studied Catholic theology and German at the Universities of Tübingen and Munich . In 1982/1983 he passed the diploma and the first state examination at the University of Tübingen . After receiving his doctorate in 1992 as Dr. theol. at the University of Tübingen with Walter Kasper and his habilitation in 1997 for the subjects of dogmatics and the history of dogma at the theological faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , he was a specialist advisor for the history of theology for the third edition of the Lexicon for Theology and Church from 1997 to 2001 . From 1990 to 1997 he was a research assistant at the theological faculty in Freiburg im Breisgau with Peter Walter . Since 2001 he has been teaching as a university professor for dogmatics and ecumenical theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , where he was dean of the faculty and member of the Senate from 2004 to 2006 .

Since 1997 he has been a member of the working group of German-speaking dogmatists and fundamental theologians. He was active in the Catholic Theological Faculty Day from 2003 to 2009 (member of the Advisory Board 2006–2009). In Johann Adam Mohler Institute for Ecumenism he sits since 2008 the scientific advisory board. In Cardinal Willebrands Research Center he has been since 2011 a member of the Advisory Board and since 2016 the Executive Committee.

He edits the council diary of Hermann Volks together with Peter Walter.
