Leonhard Hoffmann

Leonhard Hoffmann (born August 8, 1845 in Nesselbach, a district of Langenburg ; † May 30, 1921 in Stuttgart ) was a German veterinarian and politician (German People's Party) .

Life

Leonhard Hoffmann was born on August 8, 1845 in Nesselbach as the son of the landowner Leonhard Hoffmann senior and his wife Rosine, née Breitschwerdt. Hoffmann first worked as a farmer from 1860 to 1868 before completing training as a veterinarian at the veterinary school, which later became the veterinary college, in Stuttgart by 1871. In addition, from 1871 he attended the veterinary schools in Munich , Dresden , Hanover and Berlin .

As a result, Hoffmann was employed as senior veterinarian in Württemberg from 1873 , then from 1878 to 1886 as senior surgeon in the 29th Field Artillery Regiment. He then followed a call to the Stuttgart Veterinary School, where he initially represented all clinical subjects. Most recently, he was entrusted with the management of the surgical equine clinic from 1900 to 1912, from the division of the clinics to the dissolution of the Stuttgart Veterinary University. Hoffmann was a member of the Stuttgart Freemason Lodge Wilhelm to the rising sun .

In addition, Leonhard Hoffmann was also politically active. From 1898 to 1903 he represented the constituency of Württemberg 11 ( Hall , Backnang , Öhringen , Weinsberg ) for the People's Party in the Reichstag .

Leonhard Hoffmann, father of three daughters and two sons, married Ottilie, the daughter of the businessman Rudolf Behr, in Ludwigsburg in 1881 . He died on May 30, 1921 at the age of 76 in Stuttgart.

Act

As a versatile author on the subject of veterinary medicine, he initially published the works Animal Psychology in 1881 and The Development of the Military Veterinary System in Württemberg , 1883. He later wrote numerous articles and detailed presentations on surgery. The last of his works was the monograph The Control and Eradication of Foot and Mouth Disease , 1921. His atlas of veterinary operations theory, published in 1908, is of lasting historical value.
