Leopold Graf von Rothkirch und Trach (born December 27, 1923 in Kassel , † October 27, 2009 in Bonn ) was a German farmer , officer and equestrian .

Life

Leopold, from the former Silesian noble family of Rothkirch , was the son of the successful show jumper and later general of the cavalry Edwin Graf von Rothkirch and Trach (1888–1980) and his wife Albertine, nee. Countess von Schaumburg (1902–1935).

After finishing high school, he was drafted into the armed forces in 1942 . In 1944 he was deployed as a lieutenant in the tank troops in the defensive battles in Courland , East Prussia and Hungary and in April 1945 he took part in the battle of the Seelow Heights east of Berlin .

After the war Rothkirch in 1948 agronomist , and in 1950 he took over a good in Römerberg in northern Hesse . In 1958 he became a reserve officer in the Bundeswehr , where he was promoted to colonel of the reserve in 1976 after regular exercises and promotions .

From 1961 to 1970 he was a consultant for large farms at Massey Ferguson , then from 1970 to 1976 chairman of the Central Marketing Society of the German Agricultural Industry (CMA). From 1976 to 1984 he was head of public relations at Deutz-Fahr -Landtechnik (KHD) and finally from 1984 to 1993 he was a consultant for the Dutch agricultural sector and the Dutch embassy.

Leopold Graf von Rothkirch und Trach was a passionate rider, successful in all disciplines in the 1950s and 1960s, especially eventing . With increasing age he specialized in driving . He became a board member of the "German Riding and Driving Association" (DRFV) and chairman of the DRFV's driving group. He had the qualification to judge in all Olympic disciplines up to the highest class. From 1960 he got involved in the Rotary Club in Kassel and in 1971 he was a co-founder of the Rotary Club Bonn-Kreuzberg .

In 1950 he married Gabriele Heintze; the marriage has two children. In 1977 he entered into a second marriage with Ute Spieker.
