Leopold Schrödl

Leopold Schrödl (born July 7, 1841 in Währing , † December 5, 1908 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Leopold Schrödl was the son of the sculptor and ivory carver Norbert Michael Schrödl and the brother of the painter Norbert Schrödl ; the painter Anton Schrödl was his uncle. Since his father was often abroad, Leopold Schrödl also lived in different countries when he was young. In 1852 he received lessons from Mihály Zichy in Saint Petersburg . 1854–1855 he attended the modeling class at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris . After his father had moved to Frankfurt am Main , Leopold received private lessons there from Eduard Schmidt von der Launitz from 1855 to 1856 ; He then studied from 1856 to 1858 at the Städel Art Institute under Johann Nepomuk Zwerger and Johannes Christian Dielmann. From 1858 to 1861 he continued his studies at the Dresden Academy with Ernst Rietschel before returning to Vienna. Here he received a scholarship that enabled him to stay in Italy from 1863 to 1865 and in Paris in 1866. In Vienna Schrödl worked for the sculptors Viktor Tilgner and Rudolf Weyr . From 1894 to 1908 he was an assistant at the Academy's general sculpture school. He was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery .
