Werner Wenz

Werner Wenz (born March 18, 1926 in Limburg an der Lahn ; † February 9, 2019 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German surgeon .

Life

Werner Wenz studied medicine at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He passed his medical state examination in Mainz in 1951. He completed specialist training in pathology at the University of Zurich , followed by radiology and surgery. 1954 he became a senior physician at the University Hospital Heidelberg and built the X-ray department in the Department of Surgery at. He received his radiological specialist certification in 1961.

After his habilitation in 1964, he initially worked as a private lecturer . In 1972 he was appointed to the chair of radiology at the Medical Faculty of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In addition, as Medical Director, he took over the management of the X-ray diagnostics department at the Freiburg University Medical Center . In 1976/77 he was dean of the medical faculty . From 1983 to 1985 he was Vice-Rector for the University Hospital of the University of Freiburg and was awarded the University Medal in Bronze in 1987. In 1991 he retired .

The focus of teaching and research was radiological diagnostics and radiological interventional therapy. He was considered an expert in vascular dilatation . He established drainage procedures and the interventional treatment of portal hypertension ( TIPS ). For his research on the occlusion ( embolization ) of arteries in the digestive tract , he was awarded the Röntgen Prize in 1985. In 2000 he became an honorary member of the German Radiological Society .

He has published numerous scientific papers in gastrointestinal diagnostics, angiography and interventional radiology. For many years he was the editor of the monthly magazine "Der Radiologe" and a member of the scientific advisory boards of more than twelve scientific societies and journals.

Werner Wenz was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . He was a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 1983, Werner Wenz of Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien de Furstenberg Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem appointed and on May 7, 1983 Paderborn Cathedral by Archbishop Franz Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy invested . He was Commander of the Order.
