The Lerbach is a 5.4 km long tributary of the Strunde in the urban area of Bergisch Gladbach . In some sources, such as the NRW water register, it is incorrectly listed as Lehbach .
Surname
The word Ler is probably derived from the Middle High German "lei / leie" (= rock, slate), according to which Lerbach is to be interpreted as Felsbach.
geography
course
The Lerbach arises from two headwaters in Herkenrath , south of Paul-Lücke-Straße and south of the road to Kreuzbusch. About 1 km after the confluence of the two arms, the stream runs through the former clarification ponds of the Blücher pit . This is followed by the Kaltenbroich and Oberlerbach settlements with the Oberlerbacher Mühle and Lerbach Castle . On its way through the residential area Heidkamp it flows through the garden settlement Gronauerwald and flows into the Strunde in the area of the former Cederwaldmühle .
Catchment area
The approximately 4.1 km² catchment area is drained into the North Sea via the Strunde and Rhine .
It borders
- in the northeast to that of the Strund tributary Hombach
- in the east to that of the Sülz tributary Volbach
- in the southeast to that of the Milchbornbach , a tributary to the Saaler Mühlenbach
- and in the south to that of the Scheidtbach , which also flows into the Strunde as Rodenbach .
Its catchment area is predominantly forested in the southeast, with settlements and arable land predominating in the easternmost area. In the middle part, forest, meadows and fields alternate and in the west there is settlement area.
Mining
On its way, the Lerbach flowed through the ore fields of the Blücher mine, Selma mine and Bertha mine , as well as the brown coal fields in the area of the JW Zanders paper mill and Moritz J. Weig's former Cederwaldmühle .
