Levin Rudolph von der Schulenburg

Levin Rudolph von der Schulenburg (born October 23, 1727 in Tucheim , † September 22, 1788 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general and real secret minister of state and war. In addition, he was head of the mini-department of the general directorate and director of the 3rd department of the high war college .

Life

His parents were the Prussian court and legation councilor Levin Dietrich von der Schulenburg (1678–1743) and his wife Katharine Sophie, née von der Asseburg (1686–1780) from the Meisdorf - Falkenstein family . The father was the capitular lord of the Church of Our Lady Halberstadt and heir to Tuchheim. Major General August Ferdinand von der Schulenburg was his brother.

In 1743 Schulenburg joined the Infantry Regiment "von Kalckstein" No. 25 of the Prussian Army as a private corporal . There he became second lieutenant in 1750 . At the beginning of the Seven Years' War he became adjutant general to Field Marshal Christoph Wilhelm von Kalckstein and took part in the battles of Roßbach , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Liegnitz and Torgau . He then joined Frederick II's entourage . In January 1758, he was appointed captain and adjutant of the king's wing . On August 15, 1760 he was promoted to major .

After the war he was in August 1767 to lieutenant colonel appointed on 14 July 1771 to Colonel . When the War of the Bavarian Succession broke out in 1778 , he was responsible for catering in the royal army. In 1779 he succeeded Lieutenant General Carl Heinrich von Wedel as head of the department for replenishment in the general directorate, and he also became director of the orphanage in Potsdam . On June 18, 1779 he was appointed major general and on May 20, 1787 as lieutenant general. On June 25th of that year he became head of the 3rd Department of the Upper War College. A few days later he was also appointed secret minister of state and war.

He was married to Wilhelmine Caroline, born von Zinnow (* July 18, 1752, † March 7, 1800), the daughter of the secret finance councilor Johann (Joachim) Christoph Zinnow (1710-1760). The marriage was divorced in 1768 without children.

In 1772 she married the Rittmeister Philipp Friedrich August Wilhelm von Briest (* October 3, 1749, † January 7, 1822). The later well-known writer Caroline de la Motte Fouqué emerged from the marriage.
