Lexii Alijai

Lexii Alijai (real name Alexis Alijai Lynch ; born February 19, 1998 in Saint Paul , † January 1, 2020 in Minneapolis ) was an American rapper .

Life

Childhood and youth

Alijai was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota . On her father's side, she was the granddaughter of the musician Roger Troutman , the founder of the band Zapp . Her father Roger Lynch was also a musician. She attended Como Park Senior High School near Como Lake in Saint Paul. After initially taking an interest in basketball, she then focused on music and moved to the Creative Arts Secondary School in Minnesota before enrolling in an online school. She eventually dropped out to pursue a full-time music career and began rapping over the beats of popular songs by artists such as Dej Loaf , 2Pac and Drake .

Career

Alijai released her first mixtape, Super Sweet 16s , in 2014 for her sixteenth birthday, and then worked with Rocky Diamonds on an expanded piece called 3 Days . A second mixtape, In the Meantime , was released a few months later, then their third, Feel ∙ Less , in October of that year.

In 2015 she worked with rapper Shaun Sloan on a mixtape called Same Struggle. Different story . A friendship with the singer Kehlani led to a contribution as a guest performer on her first commercial mixtape You Should Be Here , which reached number 36 on the Billboard 200 and a Grammy nomination. Her presence on the track Jealous got her media attention. Her next project, a mixtape called Joseph's Coat , was released in late 2015 and included a guest appearance by Elle Varner . In 2016 she appeared at the Soundset Music Festival and was on stage as the opening act for Playboi Carti , Lil Uzi Vert and Rich the Kid . She released a remix of Exchange by Bryson Tiller and Cold Hearted by Meek Mill and Jay-Z, and a music video for her remix of Cold Hearted .

In 2017 she released remixes of the songs Redbone by Childish Gambino and Me, Myself and I by Beyoncé . On September 8th of that year, Alijai released her debut studio album Growing Pains , in which she covered topics such as dropping out of school and maintaining a relationship with the mother of her ex-boyfriend.

Lexii Alijai died at the Loews Minneapolis Hotel on January 1, 2020 at the age of 21. The aspiring rapper died as a result of an overdose of fentanyl and alcohol, according to a coroner report.
