Linda Välimäki (born May 31, 1990 in Ylöjärvi ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Ilves Tampere in the Naisten Liiga since 2017 . Välimäki has been a member of the Finnish national team since around 2009 and has won medals at the Olympic Winter Games and ice hockey world championships with it several times .
Career
Linda Välimäki comes from Ilves Ylöjärvi's junior division . In 2002 she made her debut for her home club in the highest women's ice hockey division in Finland, the Naisten SM-sarja . Between 2005 and 2010 she played for Ilves Tampere in SM-sarja and in 2006 she won her first Finnish championship with Ilves . In the 2009/10 season 42 goals, 35 assists and 77 scorer points were both top scorer and top scorer in the top division. At the end of the season, Ilves won the Finnish championship and Välimäki contributed 6 goals and 13 assists in 11 games in the playoffs.
From 2010 to 2016 Välimäki was active for the Espoo Blues . During the 2011/12 season she gave birth to their daughter Ada and missed most of the playing time. At the end of the 2012/13 season, she scored the championship-winning goal for her first championship title with the Blues in the last game of the final series. In the following two playing years she won two more Finnish championships with the Blues and received numerous personal awards, including the honor of play-off MVP, best striker and multiple choice for the All-Star team. In addition, she won the Tiia Reima trophy for the most successful goalscorer in the main round five times .
For the 2017/18 season she returned to Ilves Tampere and reached two runner-up championships with Ilves. In October 2017 she scored her 300th goal in the Finnish top division.
Välimäki has completed a total of 335 main round games in the SM-sarja and Liiga, in which she scored 360 goals and prepared 342 more. In the play-offs, she scored 57 goals and 72 assists in 93 games (as of April 2019). She holds several records of Naisten SM-sarja (Liiga).
International
Linda Välimäki completed her first internationals for the U18 junior national team. At the U18 World Cup in 2008 she was the best Finnish player with seven points and finished sixth with the female U18 selection team. Then she was also used in the women's national team and came to 35 international matches by 2010, in which she collected 16 points scorer. She received the nomination for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - without having played a major international tournament beforehand - and won the bronze medal there with the Finnish women.
At the 2013 World Cup , Välimäki finished fourth with the Finnish national team. In 2014 she was nominated again for the Winter Olympics, played all six games and finished fifth with the national team. At the 2015 and 2017 World Championships , she won her first World Championship medals, with third place each being achieved. In 2018 she was nominated again for the Olympic Winter Games in South Korea and won the bronze medal as in 2010. In the decisive game for the bronze medal, Välimäki scored the 3-2 winner against Russia.
At the World Cup in Finland in 2019 , Välimäki achieved the first silver medal in Finnish World Cup history with the Finnish national team. By April 2019, Välimäki had completed 167 international matches, in which she scored 39 goals and 49 assists.
