The line 3 and Seventh Avenue Express is a subway line of the New York City Subway . The sign is red on the stations and on the official subway map as it uses the IRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line through Manhattan .

Trains run 24 hours a day between 148th Street in Harlem and Times Square - 42nd Street in Manhattan . During the day, it continues to New Lots Avenue in East New York , at night line 4 runs there .

The route runs - mainly underground - in Manhattan on the IRT Lenox Avenue Line and the IRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line and in Brooklyn on the IRT Eastern Parkway Line and the IRT New Lots Line . In Brooklyn, it leaves the tunnel via a ramp and runs as an elevated train from the Sutter Avenue - Rutland Road station . The northern end point Harlem - 148th Street and the Lenox Yard parking area located there are also above ground.

The terminus Harlem - 148th Street has a central platform on two butt tracks, parallel to it is the Lenox Yard parking area . After the final stop, New Lots Avenue , the tracks continue to the Livonia Yard depot . Line 3 is used by 155.6 m long 10-car trains of type R62, which - with one exception - only run there.
