course

A 7 train (Flushing Local) at 111 Street Station in Queens

The line uses the IRT Flushing route , the terminus of which is under Roosevelt Avenue one block north of Flushing Main Street station on Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). Two blocks west of the terminus, the route emerges into daylight, crosses Flushing Creek and the Van Wyck Expressway together with Roosevelt Avenue and runs as an elevated train first over Roosevelt Avenue, then over Queens Boulevard towards Sunnyside Yard and crosses it around the subway - To reach the Queensboro Plaza Junction . Then the route turns in a 90 ° curve to the south and still follows 23th Street in an elevated position . Before the LIRR tracks leading to Long Island City , the line turns right in another 90 ° bend, where it reaches Hunters Point Avenue - the first station to be lowered again. The Steinway Tunnel goes under the East River, followed by the subway at 42nd Street , where Grand Central Terminal and Times Square are located. The end of Line 7 is in Hudson Yards - the extension from Times Square to this new business district only opened in 2015.

The Mets-Willets Point stop is only open on New York Mets match days or special events.

The Flushing Local with a circular signet serves all stops, while the Flushing Express with a diamond-shaped signet only serves the Woodside-61Street , Junction Boulevard and Mets-Willets Point stops in Queens east of Queensboro Plaza , if they are open, as well as the terminus Flushing Main Street . The Flushing Express only runs during rush hour - in the morning towards Manhattan, in the afternoon towards Queens.

business

The trains have been running in semi-automatic operation (ATO level 2) since June 2019 . After the departure is cleared, the train accelerates and brakes automatically without the driver having to do anything. Its task is limited to triggering the departure at the stops and monitoring the free route so that it can trigger rapid braking in the event of obstacles on the route . The line NYCS-bull-trans-7-hrsvgis NYCS-bull-trans-L-Std.svgthe second line after the line that is operated in semi-automatic mode.

A few months before shooting the ATO, was on the track, the Communications-Based Train Control introduced (CBTC), an inserted especially in subways train control system that is similar to ETCS works, but also driving in wandering space distance allows (Moving Block) . The CBTC replaced the R-2 external signals from Union Switch & Signal .

In June 2019, 38 trains were used on Line 7 during rush hour in the morning. The trains consist of a five-part and a six-part multiple unit from the R188 series . The subway cars were built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries between 2011 and 2016 . You have a drive by Bombardier Transportation of using IGBT - inverter and AC induction motors operate.
