The line D is a line of New York City Subway and runs from 145 Street in Harlem on the IND Concourse Line , IND Eighth Avenue Line , IND Sixth Avenue Line , the BMT Fourth Avenue Line and BMT West End Line to Coney Iceland - Stillwell Avenue . Since it runs on the trunk line under the Avenue of the Americas ("6th Av."), It has the line color orange and is also known as the 6 Avenue Express .

Line D runs from Harlem to Sunset Park as an express train that only stops at selected stations. In the Bronx it stops at all stations along the route at normal times, but during rush hour it also runs there as an express (indicated by the diamond symbol ). On the BMT West End Line , however, it always operates as a “local” and serves all stops along the route. It shares most of its route with Line B , which runs north of Midtown Manhattan as a "Local" (also in the Bronx during rush hour).

Line D trains run around the clock. All stations in Brooklyn are served at night .

Line D is often mentioned in popular culture as the fastest connection from Manhattan to Coney Island . B. by Bob Dylan , Jerry Seinfeld , the Beastie Boys or Type O Negative .
