List of municipalities in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district

The list of municipalities in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district provides an overview of the ten smallest administrative units in the district. There are eight cities and two municipalities.

The district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld is located in the east of Saxony-Anhalt . It was created as part of the 2007 district reform by merging the Bitterfeld and Köthen districts , which already existed as districts during the GDR , and part of the Anhalt-Zerbst district . The current administrative structure has existed since 2010.

There is no association municipality in the district . All municipalities in the district are thus unitary municipalities .

The largest municipality in the 1453.51 km² district is by far the city of Zerbst / Anhalt ; With 467.77 km² it is one of the largest municipalities in Germany . The second largest municipality by area is the city of southern Anhalt with 191.54 km². In addition, three municipalities have an area between 140 and 100 km², another four are between 100 and 75 km². The city of Aken (Elbe) , which has a size of 59.91 km², is the smallest .

The most populous municipality in the district with 83,173 inhabitants is the city of Bitterfeld-Wolfen with a population of 38,159 . Two municipalities have between 20,000 and 30,000 inhabitants, three between 10,000 and 15,000, the other four under 10,000. The city of Aken (Elbe) has the fewest inhabitants of the municipalities in the district with 7,494.

In the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, an average of 109 people live on one km² . The cities of Bitterfeld-Wolfen and Köthen (Anhalt) are most densely populated with 436 and 327 inhabitants per km². Two other municipalities have a population density between 200 and 100 inhabitants per km², in the remaining six it is lower. The most sparsely populated municipality in the district is the city of Zerbst / Anhalt with 46 inhabitants per km².
