List of municipalities in the district of Stendal
The list of municipalities in the Stendal district gives an overview of the 25 smallest administrative units in the district. These are five cities, five Hanseatic cities and fifteen municipalities.
The district of Stendal is located in the northeast of the state of Saxony-Anhalt . It was created under the name of the district of Eastern Altmark as part of the district reform in 1994 through the merger of the districts of Havelberg , Osterburg and Stendal and part of the district of Salzwedel . In the same year it was given its current name. The district remained unaffected by the 2007 district reform . The current administrative structure has existed since 2011.

There are three association communities in the district :
- Verbandsgemeinde Arneburg-Goldbeck with the city of Arneburg , the Hanseatic city of Werben (Elbe) and the communities of Eichstedt (Altmark) , Goldbeck (administrative headquarters), Hassel , Hohenberg-Krusemark , Iden and Rochau
- Verbandsgemeinde Elbe-Havel-Land with the city of Sandau (Elbe) and the communities of Kamern , Klietz , Schönhausen (Elbe) (administrative center) and Wust-Fischbeck
- Verbandsgemeinde Seehausen (Altmark) with the Hanseatic City of Seehausen (Altmark) (administrative seat) and the communities of Aland , Altmärkische Höhe , Altmärkische Wische and Zehrental
The cities of Bismark (Altmark) , Tangerhütte and Tangermünde and the Hanseatic cities of Havelberg , Osterburg (Altmark) and Stendal are unitary communities .
The largest municipalities in the 2423.14 km² district are the cities of Tangerhütte and Bismark (Altmark) with 295 and 289 km². Two other municipalities are over 200 km² in size, another two between 200 and 100 km², eleven between 100 and 50 km², the remaining seven are smaller. The smallest areas of the municipalities in the district are the town of Sandau (Elbe) and the municipality of Hassel , at 19 and 21 km² .
Over a third of the district's 111,190 inhabitants, namely 39,103, live in the district town of Stendal . The remaining municipalities have fewer than 12,000 inhabitants, three of them over 10,000, three more between 10,000 and 5,000, two between 3,000 and 2,000, ten between 2,000 and 1,000. The remaining six municipalities have a three-digit population, which is just under 1,000 in all cases; the smallest communities in the district, Iden and Altmärkische Wische , have 795 and 853 inhabitants.
The average population density of the district of Stendal is 46 inhabitants per km². The district town of Stendal is the most densely populated municipality in the district with 146 inhabitants per km², and the city of Tangermünde with 115 inhabitants per km² is well above the district average. Furthermore, living in three communities between 50 and 60 people per square kilometer, in four 49 to 40, in three 39 to 30, in eight 29 to 20 and five more than 19. Among them, the municipalities Zehrental and Altmärkische Wipe with 12 and 13 inhabitants per km² least populated.
