District reform Saxony-Anhalt 1994

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district structures in Saxony-Anhalt were reorganized through the law on district reform . As of July 1, 1994, the number of districts fell from 37 to 21. Some districts were newly formed, others only slightly changed, and still others remained unaffected by the law. Two of the three independent cities, which were also enlarged by the law, were also affected.

Section 36 of the law made it possible for the district council to replace the provisional name with another. This happened in four cases.

The population figures given here refer to the annex to the law and are as of June 1990.
