Gohrau is a district of the city of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The district is located south of the Elbe bank on the edge of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve between Dessau-Roßlau and Wittenberg . Only a few kilometers away is the Wörlitzer Park in the middle of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm , which was founded in the second half of the 18th century under the reign of Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau was created. Extensive pine forests spread out towards the south - the northern foothills of the Düben Heath . The area around Gohrau is flat and is crossed by numerous ditches and streams - the close Schönitzer Lake is an oxbow lake of the Elbe.
history
In the year 1200, the place originally settled by Slavs appears for the first time in a tithe register as Gore . The name Gore is derived from the word goreti (burning, glowing) and indicates that it was created by clearing . After a period of desertification , Gohrau was repopulated in the second third of the 16th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the place belonged to the property of the old Dessauer , who in 1711 and 1726 bought the goods from the noble family von der Lochau , who lived in Rehsen , and rebuilt most of the place.
In the 1920s, the sheep farm was demolished and the village green with the monument to the fallen was built at this point.
In the middle of the 20th century, the number of inhabitants increased due to the workforce of the newly created repair shop for agricultural machines. Since 1990 the population development - as in the entire area - has been declining.
On July 1, 2007, the municipality of Gohrau was incorporated into the Wittenberg district due to a district reform from the former Anhalt-Zerbst district.
On January 1, 2011, Gohrau was incorporated into the new town of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz.
