Brandhorst is a district of the city of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
Until the municipality was dissolved by the GemNeuglG WB, it was the smallest municipality in Saxony-Anhalt in terms of both area and population. The district is located south of the Elbe bank in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve . Only a few kilometers away is the Wörlitzer Park in the middle of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm , which was founded in the second half of the 18th century under the reign of Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau was created. The area around Brandhorst is flat and is criss-crossed by numerous ditches and streams.
history
In 1708, Princess Henriette Catharina von Nassau-Oranien gave Müller Herrmann a building site to build the Kakauer mill . The place is mentioned for the first time in 1747. The place originated on an old market that bore the name Brandhorst . Founding of the place by Prince Leopold I after drainage measures in the area from 1706–1709.

On July 1, 2007, the municipality of Brandhorst was incorporated into the Wittenberg district due to a district reform from the former Anhalt-Zerbst district.
On January 1, 2011 Brandhorst was incorporated into the new town of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz.
Transport links
The street village of Brandhorst stretches from the L 133 (to Dessau-Roßlau via Vockerode , formerly federal highway 107 ) to the L 131 (from Oranienbaum to Wittenberg ). The motorway junction of the A 9 Dessau-Ost is approx. 9 km away.
The next train stations are in Dessau-Roßlau or in Radis (railway line Wittenberg - Bitterfeld ). The Oranienbaum station of the Dessau-Wörlitzer Railway is only served in the summer season.
