Burgenland coat of arms

The province of Burgenland was rebuilt in 1921/22. The first two heads of government held the title of land administrator. Burgenland was divided by the Nazi dictatorship on October 15, 1938 into the Reichsgaue Niederdonau and Styria (Portschy became Deputy Gauleiter of Styria). After the end of the war, the state was rebuilt with effect from October 1, 1945.
