List of ophiolites

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ophiolites are a series of ultramafic and mafic magmatites . They are believed to represent the equivalents of former oceanic lithospheric areas (especially oceanic crust ). Ophiolites occur worldwide, but their occurrence is closely associated with orogen formation . Theycan be traced backaround 2 billion years to the Paleoproterozoic .

In the following list, the ophiolites are arranged by continent . Educational age (B), seating (P) and type (T) are also given, if known.
