They had no assets or a bank account. In her apartment, Alma Meyer cooked for two or three women she knew from Jews in order to earn a living. Former neighbors remember that the sisters lived very secluded, but, even childless, had a heart for children. They comforted people with grief and gave sweets.

Blühdorn had been suffering from nervous disorders ever since, had to seek treatment and, when he was scheduled for deportation, committed suicide on May 23, 1942 Another stumbling block for Eugen Blühdorn was laid at the family residence Theodor-Heuss-Ring 60 in Cologne .

The family had lived at Seerobenstrasse 18 since 1932. From around 1939 to 1942, Dr. Frankl committed to forced labor in the BEO soap factory in Dotzheim, Wiesbadener Strasse. Elli Frankl came from Silesia. She was born on August 12, 1896 in Charlottenbrunn district of Waldenburg. Her wealthy family owned a ceramic factory in Charlottenbrunn near Breslau. Like many young people at the beginning of the 19th century, Erich and Elli Frankl were enthusiastic about the Wandervogel movement .

As a cantor, he led the service at the synagogue and, as a religion teacher, fulfilled an important role in community life with his Bible lessons for 5- to 10-year-olds.

In 1942 the couple had to move to Frankfurt.

After receiving American citizenship, he started a family and opened a medical practice. He died in 1969 at the age of 58.

In September 1939, the parents of five-year-old Josef and two-year-old Rosel were forcibly committed by the authorities to a barracks in the Mühlthal homeless settlement.

The residential and business premises were initially at Helenenstrasse 13, from 1923 at Webergasse 58 and since June 1929 at Helenenstrasse 23. Business in the 1920s was not going well. The years 1929 and 1930 were particularly difficult. With the beginning of the National Socialists' rule and the associated boycott measures, the economic situation deteriorated further.
