The old country road between Roppen and Imst has been very well preserved as a result of the relocation of Tiroler Straße B 171 in individual sections with bridges and defensive stones. There is historical evidence of the transport of ores and Hall salt to the Engadine and the Vinschgau. In the years 1719/1720 and 1727/1728, at the express request of the Oberinntaler courts and the Stams monastery, the route from the Telfer Inn Bridge to Brennbichl near Imst was partially re-routed and in general improved . The areas preserved today date from the 18th century.

The relevant section of the old country road is here in the area of the Trankhütte. It has an unbound carriageway and side verges with vegetation with cuboid defense stones made of hewn natural stone material.

Note: The protected sections of the old state road B 1 extend for more than 5 km across the communities of Roppen, Karres and Karrösten (east to west) parallel to the Roppen tunnel .
