Elmar Kopp

Elmar Kopp (born April 2, 1929 in Imst ; † March 5, 2020 ) was an Austrian painter and sculptor .

Life

Elmar Kopp studied with Toni Kirchmayr in Innsbruck and, despite losing his right hand in an accident at work in 1949, studied painting with Josef Dobrowsky and Herbert Boeckl and sculpture with Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1951 . In 1953 he went on a study trip to Paris , in 1954 he graduated from the Academy with the State Prize. Since 1956 he lived and worked as a freelance artist in Imst. Kopp created landscape, flower and figurative pictures, as well as numerous works ( sculptures , frescoes , sgraffiti , mosaics ) in public spaces, among others as part of the art-in-building campaign of the state of Tyrol. He provided designs for stained glass windows and tapestries woven by his wife Midi. He went on study trips through Europe, Africa and Asia. In 1982 Federal President Rudolf Kirchschläger awarded him the professional title of Professor .
