history

The Lohmühle was built in 1776 by the Zeilitzheim red tanner Andreas Krönlein. It had an undershot water wheel 5 m in diameter. Previously, Krönlein had acquired the water rights for this part of the Volkach from the domain office of the Counts of Schönborn , and he also secured the grinding concession for ten Reichstaler . The mill received its own mill stream, which was branched off from the Volkach. At first it remained a fiefdom of the Counts of Schönborn.

The mill was used to chop the sawn oaks , and the bark chips obtained in this way were then dried in the outbuilding. The Zeilitzheim tanners used these for firing the so-called loh pits. In 1874 the miller Friedrich Krönlein replaced the fiefdom at the domain office and was henceforth the owner of his mill. The buildings were changed in 1886 and 1910 before a lack of profitability put an end to the mill operations in 1927. Today the property is used as a residential building.
