Constituency history

The constituency of Bangalore Rural has existed since the Lok Sabha election in 2009. The predecessor constituency was Kanakapura . After no reorganization of the constituencies had taken place since 1976, this Kanakapura had grown disproportionately due to the strong increase in the population in the area around Bangalore. When the constituencies were reorganized in the run-up to the 2009 election, the new constituency of Bangalore Rural was created from the reduced Kanakapura constituency and a smaller part of the Tumkur constituency.
