Lothar Franzkowiak

Lothar Franzkowiak (* 1952 in Helmstedt ) is a German judge .

Franzkowiak grew up in Wolfsburg . He completed the basic military service and then went to the University of Göttingen . There he studied law . He spent his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Braunschweig . He then worked as a judge at the Braunschweig Administrative Court . After reunification in 1991, he was seconded as a judge to the Magdeburg Higher Administrative Court. He served there until his retirement in February 2017, as presiding judge from 2006 .

Franzkowiak had worked as a judge since 1998, as a research assistant and press spokesman at the State Constitutional Court of Saxony-Anhalt in Dessau-Roßlau and was elected as a member and vice-president of the State Constitutional Court by the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 2007 . After the President of the Constitutional Court Winfried Schubert retired, Franzkowiak was elected as his successor in the presidency on September 28, 2017.
