Thomas Smollich

Thomas Smollich (born March 1963 in Springe ) is a German lawyer and judge . He is currently President of the Lower Saxony State Court .

Life

Smollich graduated from the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium in Springe. He then attended the Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Hildesheim from 1982 to 1985 , from which he graduated with a degree in administration . He then took up law studies at the University of Hanover . The first state exam he passed in 1989. This was followed by the clerkship in the Higher Regional Court of Celle and the second state examination in 1992. In the same year he was at the University of Hannover with the thesis The conflict sporting facilities and environmental protection: solutions for the construction planning and pollution control laws for Dr. iur. PhD .

Smollich entered the Lower Saxony administrative courts in 1993. In 1996 he became a judge at the Hanover Administrative Court . Shortly afterwards, in 1997, he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice . There he was Ministerialrat in 2000 and Head of Ministerialrat in 2002. In the Ministry of Justice he was head of the budget department and deputy head of the central department for seven years. In 2007 he switched back to administrative jurisdiction and became President of the Göttingen Administrative Court .

Smollich was appointed Vice President on July 4, 2016 and President of the Lower Saxony Higher Administrative Court on March 24, 2017 . He has also been a member of the State Court of Justice since December 13, 2018. On January 23, 2019, he was unanimously elected President of the State Court of Justice by the Lower Saxony state parliament on the proposal of the SPD and CDU . His term of office began on February 23, 2019.
