Louis-Pierre Hélie (born January 1, 1986 in Berthierville , Québec ) is a Canadian freestyle skier and ski racer . His strongest disciplines are downhill , super-G and combined , but he also achieved good results in slalom and giant slalom . Hélie won the overall ranking of the Nor-Am Cup in the 2008/09 season and has also started in the World Cup this winter . He has been racing in ski cross since the 2012/13 season .

biography

Hélie competed in his first FIS races in December 2001 and immediately achieved two tenth places in the slaloms of Val Saint-Côme . The first victory followed in January 2004 in the giant slalom of Mont Sainte-Anne . The Canadian has been competing in the Nor-Am Cup since January 2003 . By the end of the 2002/03 season , two 20th places in the slalom and the giant slalom of Sunday River were his best results. At the end of the next winter he drove in the slalom of Mont Tremblant for the first time among the top 15 and the first top 10 result he achieved on January 6, 2005 with sixth place in the slalom of Sunday River. The following month he took part in the Junior World Championships 2005 in Bardonecchia , where he only achieved placements around 40th place. In the 2005/06 Nor-Am Cup season , Hélie was able to classify himself in the top ten in four downhill runs and a Super-G, which meant he achieved a top 10 place in the discipline for the first time. At the Junior World Championship in 2006 in his home country, he was tenth in the downhill and eleventh in the Super-G.

In the 2006/07 season , Hélie finally made it to the top in the Nor-Am Cup with nine top 10 places in all disciplines, except giant slalom. His best result was fourth place in Panorama Super Combined on December 13th. With this he reached fourth place in the overall ranking and was also able to classify himself in the top ten in all discipline rankings with the exception of the giant slalom. In the 2007/08 season he was able to improve further and with second place in the downhill of Lake Louise and in the Super-G of Panorama he was on the podium for the first time. With another five top 10 results, he achieved second place behind his compatriot Julien Cousineau in the overall ranking of the Nor-Am Cup as well as third place in the downhill and super-G rankings. The 2008/09 season was even more successful . By January, Hélie had seven podiums and in February he was able to win three races in a row at Mammoth Mountain , where he had to share the second victory with his compatriot Tyler Nella . With these achievements, he won the overall Nor-Am-Cup ranking and the super combination ranking and was second overall in the downhill and super-G. He also made it into the top ten in slalom and giant slalom.

In the winter of 2008/09 Hélie started the World Cup for the first time . In his six appearances, however, he has not yet made it into the points. His best result was 33rd place on the Lauberhorn run in Wengen . He won his first World Cup points with 22nd place in the first downhill of the 2009/10 season in Lake Louise. For over a year, however, this was his only point gain. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , the Canadian competed in the super combination and finished 30th out of 34 runners. On December 18, 2010, Hélie surprised when he finished 13th in the downhill run from Val Gardena with start number 56 , thus achieving his best World Cup result to date. Ten days later, the season ended for Hélie. During training for the departure in Bormio , he suffered a traumatic brain injury and injuries to his left knee. In the 2011/12 comeback season, Hélie remained without points in his 13 World Cup races, while he finished fourth in the two downhill runs of the Nor-Am Cup and was fourth in the discipline ranking.

After the 2011/12 season he switched to ski cross . He made his debut in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup at the beginning of the 2012/13 season in Nakiska , where he finished 25th. At the World Cup in San Candido , he came eighth and achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup. At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2013 in Voss , he achieved 41st place. In the 2014/15 season, he achieved fifth place at the World Cup in Åre, his best ever World Cup placement. At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2015 on Kreischberg , he finished 18th.
