Love Live! Sunshine !! ( ラ ブ ラ イ ブ! サ ン シ ャ イ ン !! Rabu Raibu! Sanshain !! ) is a manga and anime television series belonging to the franchise of the same name and a continuation of the Love Live! School Idol Project with completely new characters, while the premise of the predecessor is retained.
Like Love Live! School Idol Project created the manga series by romancière Sakurako Kimino this time from the drawings while Masaru Oda be contributed. A 26-part anime television series ran on Japanese television from July 2016. The anime was published in German-speaking countries by Kazé Anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
In 2019, Love Live! Sunshine !! The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow, a feature film that closes the story of the anime television series.

The premise remains in comparison to its predecessor with Love Live! Sunshine !! Mostly the same: Nine high school students form an idol group in order to increase the attractiveness of their school and thus prevent a planned merger with another school.
The action takes place in Uchiura near Numazu in Shizuoka Prefecture : The Uranohoshi girls' academy there is threatened with closure and merger with a school in Numazu that has suffered the same fate due to the failure of student registrations. Chika Takami, a rather inconspicuous student at the girls' academy, decides - inspired by the idol group μ’s - to also found an idol group with her friends in order to avert the fate of her school. Their group is called Aqours ( ア ク ア Akua ) and they decide on Love Live! School Idol Contest , which has experienced a significantly higher level of competition since the victory of μ's.

In May 2016, Sakurako Kimino , who already wrote the manga and light novel series for its predecessor, started a manga series under the name Love Live! Sunshine !! . The drawings are from Masaru Oda. The manga is published in Dengeki G's Magazine . In September 2016, the first manga volume in the Tankōbon format was published. A total of three volumes had been published by March 2018. Gempak Starz , a manga publisher for the Kadokawa Company , publishes the manga in English in Malaysia .
On June 30, 2016, a 160-page fan book for Love Live! Sunshine !! published, which introduces the members of the fictional idol group Aqours and contains an original manga by Kimino.
Anime
The Japanese animation studio Sunrise produced a 26-part anime television series, which was divided into two seasons of thirteen episodes each. Kazuo Sakai acted as the director . The script was written by Jukki Hanada . The character design was created by Yūhei Murota and the music composed by Tatsuya Katō . The first season was shown on Japanese television between July 2 and September 24, 2016. Crunchyroll showed the series in simulcast .
The anime was in North America by Funimation , the United Kingdom of Anime Limited and in Australia by Madman Entertainment licensed.
Both the opening credits Aozora Jumping Heart ( 青 空 Jumping Heart ) and the song in the episode credits Yume Kataru Yori Yume Utaou ( ユ メ 語 る よ り ユ メ 歌 お う ) were sung by the fictional idol group Aqours .
The 13-part second season was shown on television between October 7 and December 30, 2017. In January 2019, the anime television series received a sequel in the form of an anime theatrical film that concludes the series' plot. The same team that was responsible for creating the television series was involved in the film production. In addition, all the voice actors who had already been heard in the series returned.
In German-speaking countries , both the anime television series and the feature film were released on DVD and Blu-ray by Kazé Anime .

Commercially
The second season of Love Live! Sunshine !! was the most commercially successful anime in terms of DVD and Blu-ray sales in Japan . In the period from December 11, 2017 and December 9, 2018, 330,000 units were sold. The first season ended up in 15th place in the same period with almost 64,000 units sold.
On a musical level, the fictional idol group Aqours was able to score numerous chart entries in the Japanese music charts determined by Oricon and to achieve several gold records .
Meetings
Nick Creamer reviewed the first half of Love Live! Sunshine !! for the online platform Anime News Network . He criticized the fact that the basic concept from the first anime television series had been retained, but praised the characters, who have become much more comprehensible to viewers compared to their predecessor.
Cooperation with other companies
In 2017, Hanamaru Kunikida became the face of the game series Puyo Puyo by developer SEGA , succeeding Rin Hoshizora, who previously held this role. The characters were also in the game Puchiguru Love Live! playable.
Between August 9 and 21, 2018, there was a cooperation with the smartphone game Granblue Fantasy, the possibility to play characters from Love Live! Sunshine !! as part of Love Live! Sunshine !! Aqours Sky High! -Mission to unlock.
