Luciano Russo

Luciano Russo (born June 23, 1963 in Lusciano , Caserta province , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

After attending a Catholic elementary school in Parete , Luciano Russo completed middle and high school at the Episcopal Seminary in Aversa . He then studied Catholic theology and philosophy as an alumne of the Almo Collegio Capranica from 1981 and 1988 at the Pontifical Gregorian University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and theology. On October 1st, 1988, he received the sacrament of ordination through the Bishop of Aversa , Giovanni Gazza SX . He then worked from 1988 to 1991 as a teacher at the Episcopal Seminary and as a chaplain in the parish of San Michele alla ferovia in Aversa.

From 1991 he completed a postgraduate course at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , which he completed with a doctorate to become Dr. iur. can. graduated from the Pontifical Lateran University . On July 1, 1993, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was then Nunciature Secretary and Nunciature Councilor in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands , Honduras , Syria , Brazil , the Netherlands , and the United States of America and Bulgaria .

Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on July 6, 1996 and the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on July 1, 2006 .

On January 27, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Titular of Monteverde and the Apostolic Nuncio . On February 16, 2012, the Pope appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Rwanda . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB on April 14 of that year. Co- consecrators were Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu and the Bishop of Aversa, Angelo Spinillo .

Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Algeria and Tunisia on June 14, 2016 . On August 22, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Panama .
