The nature reserve is located west of Wustrow (Wendland) and southeast of Luckau (Wendland) on the state border with Saxony-Anhalt in the valley of the Dumme . It places a partially natural forest area under protection within the Elbhöhen-Wendland Nature Park , which is characterized by mixed oak forests , alder , ash and quarry forests on sites that are predominantly heavily influenced by groundwater and backwater.

To the south, areas close to Hochstaudenfluren , pastures -Sumpfgebüsche, herbaceous swamps, wet meadows , sedge Riede and reedbeds on. Near-natural small bodies of water can also be found in the south of the nature reserve.

The nature reserve is traversed by the stupid. A tributary of the Dumme as a border river to the state border with Saxony-Anhalt limits the nature reserve to the south.
