Ludwig Gothov-Grünecke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Gothov-Grünecke (born March 6, 1847 in Pest , † October 17, 1921 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer and conductor who composed the music for numerous stage works at the Vienna Volkstheater.

Life

Ludwig Gothov-Grünecke initially worked in the Banat town of Werschitz , which, like his native Pest, belonged to Austria-Hungary . There he was a member of the Ottep Operetta Society and choirmaster of the men's choir. On August 1, 1869, he became the orchestra conductor of Karl Zeh's theater company . At this time Gothov-Grüneke composed what is believed to be his first stage work with the opera Eduard und Kunigunde , which was premiered by the men's choir in the same year.

Around 1875 Ludwig Gothov-Grünecke went to Vienna and set primarily humorous stage works such as operettas , singspiele or antics , which were performed on many Viennese theaters. Among other things, his 46 stage music is performed at the Jantsch , Carl , Fürst , Josefstädter , Kaiser Jubilee , Raimund and Ringtheaters as well as at the Ronacher . In addition, from 1880 he worked for three years at the Josefstädter- und Jantschtheater as Kapellmeister. In that year he also celebrated his greatest success with the burlesque Ein Böhm ' written by Bruno Zappert and Max von Weinzierl in America . Since the first performance in 1880 in the Theater in der Josefstadt, the play has been performed over 500 times on many stages in Vienna.

In later years he moved to Berlin and from 1891 was the leaseholder of the Alexanderplatz Theater . He stayed there until at least 1898 when his theater license was extended. Then he went back to Vienna, where he was the owner and director of an operetta school. Ernst Arnold and Fritz Imhoff were among his students .
