Philip Wilhelm Ludwig Griesselich (also Grießelich and Griesslich) (born March 9, 1804 in Sinsheim in the Grand Duchy of Baden , † August 31, 1848 in Hamburg ) was a German botanist and homeopath.

Life

The first-born son of the Sinsheim doctor and official physician Dr. Valentin Griesselich (* 1777; † March 9, 1830) and his first wife Katharina attended the “Philological-Pedagogical Seminar” of the theology professor Friedrich Heinrich Christian Schwarz in Heidelberg from 1813 to 1820 . He then began to study medicine in Heidelberg and received his doctorate in medicine , surgery and obstetrics in 1824 . In the same year he got a job as a regimental doctor in the Grand Ducal Baden Artillery Brigade in Karlsruhe .

Since childhood and during his studies he has been intensively involved with botany and brought his knowledge about it to pharmacy by publishing works in the magazine for pharmacy . His botanical author's abbreviation is “ Griess. ".

In 1832 he traveled to Köthen (Anhalt) to see Samuel Hahnemann , who was considered the founder of homeopathy . Ludwig Griesselich was instructed in this new doctrine of salvation, practiced it after his return and published his findings.

He became the founder of the Homeopathic Association of the Grand Duchy of Baden , which was formed on October 1, 1833 from 32 members. The organ of publication of the association was HYGEA, Zeitschrift für Heilkunst , from 1839 for specific healing arts and from 1844 for rational-specific healing arts , which appeared monthly until Griesselich's death in 1848.

Ludwig Griesselich had been in Laasphe with Henriette Amoene Wilhelmine Abresch, daughter of the royal judicial councilor Gottlieb Victor Abresch , since May 18, 1828 . married and had 8 children with her.

death

In August 1848, a Baden -Hessian brigade of the Baden Army was relocated to Schleswig-Holstein to support the Schleswig-Holstein revolt against Denmark. Ludwig Griesselich went for a ride on 23 August 1848 in Altona near Hamburg . When his horse shied near a windmill , he fell and sustained severe head injuries to which he - only 44 years old - succumbed on August 31, 1848. Because there were no acts of war, he remained the only victim of this army platoon of the Badisch-Hessian Brigade.
