Ludwig Neher
Ludwig Neher (born July 9, 1850 in Stuttgart ; † May 17, 1916 in Frankfurt am Main ; full name: Ludwig Franz Michael Neher or Ludwig von Neher ) was a German architect .
Life
His grandfather Joseph Anton Neher (1776–1832) in Biberach an der Riss was a painter . His father Bernhard von Neher was a well-known history painter .
From 1869 to 1873 he completed his training at the Stuttgart Polytechnic . From 1873 he worked in Frankfurt am Main, initially as an employee of Paul Wallot and from 1876 to 1879 in the architecture office of Carl Jonas Mylius and Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli . He later worked temporarily with the Danish architect Aage von Kauffmann (1852-1922) and with the architect Franz von Hoven . In 1903 he and Franz von Hoven received a small gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .
He is buried in the main cemetery in Frankfurt am Main. His grave is a listed building .

- 1898: Own house (" Villa Neher ") in Frankfurt am Main, Untermainkai 64 / Wieshüttenstraße 1 (preserved, in the typical forms of neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance )
- 1900–1908: Extension of the town hall (called "Stadthaus", "Neues Rathaus" or "Bürgersaalbau") in Frankfurt (together with Franz von Hoven )
- 1904–1907: Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt
- 1906: Jügelhaus in Frankfurt am Main, later the main building of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University
- Reconstruction of the Palmengarten Hall in Frankfurt
Neher also designed numerous private villas, bank buildings and commercial buildings, but almost all of them were destroyed in the Second World War.
