Franz von Hoven
Franz von Hoven (born July 25, 1842 in Frankfurt am Main ; † July 24, 1924 there ) was a German architect .
Franz von Hoven studied at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic from 1860 to 1862 and switched to the Berlin Building Academy in 1862 , where he stayed until 1863.
In 1866 he settled in Frankfurt am Main as a freelance architect. He went on numerous study trips to Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain, Italy and Austria.
During the tenure of Mayor Johannes von Miquel , he was active in local politics from 1880 to 1882 as a Frankfurt city councilor . He was even more involved in the Frankfurt Artists' Society, which he headed for several years as chairman; he was also a member of a Freemason lodge in Frankfurt . He carried the honorary title of a (Prussian) building councilor .
In terms of style, Franz von Hoven was a striking representative of the Neo-Renaissance that began in Munich and Berlin . Many of his buildings, which he often designed together with other Frankfurt architects such as Ludwig Neher (1850–1916) and Franz Heberer (1883–1955), were destroyed in the Second World War , but many were also rebuilt. In 1903 he and Neher received a small gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .
